English Literature A Level

IN THE FIRST YEAR STUDENTS STUDY:
Poetry 
Students will study a selection of poems from a published poetry collection. They will develop their understanding of poetic form, content and meaning and their ability to make links and connections within their studied collection. 
Drama 
Students will also study aspects of the form of drama. Students will need to explore the use of literary and dramatic devices and the shaping of meanings in their chosen play.
Prose
Students will study aspects of prose via two thematically linked texts, at least one of which must be pre -1900.
   
THE SECOND YEAR STUDENTS STUDY 

Additional poetry and drama texts
And prepare for a coursework assignment 

3 written exams and a coursework assessment:

Component 1: Drama 2 hours and 15 minutes;

Component 2: Prose 1 hour and 15 minutes;

Component 3: Poetry 2 hours and 15 minutes;

Coursework of 2500-3000 words.

All exams are essay based and will be open book (clean copies)

Year 2 students will produce a coursework assessment on two texts of their choice. Students will need to read independently and widely to be successful in A2.
