Super-Curricular Reading

Super-curricular reading refers to exploring your academic subjects beyond the confines of the school curriculum. Reading beyond the curriculum exposes you to varying viewpoints and theories. It teaches you to question assumptions, evaluate evidence, and form well-rounded arguments. It is also vital for university admissions, as it demonstrates genuine subject passion, develops critical thinking, and proves you possess the independent study skills required for higher education.

Year 11 and Sixth Form students are encouraged to use these reading lists before starting, and throughout, their A Level and Btec studies. Regular engagement with wider reading can reinforce classroom learning, provide valuable context for topics studied, and help students develop a deeper understanding of their subjects.

Students should also discuss their reading with their teachers, who can help them make links between their wider reading and course content, recommend further resources, and support them in extending their subject knowledge.

The reading lists also offer a valuable starting point for developing a broad academic profile in preparation for university and apprenticeship applications.
