TRANSITION | FOUNDATION | EXAMINATION | ADVANCED

English Literature is hugely important, building students’ ability to write coherently, argue their point of view successfully and explore ideas, both on paper and out loud. It allows students to understand the literary heritage of the UK and other parts of the English-speaking world. At the end of GCSE, students are able to express their ideas persuasively in writing, read complex texts and use high-level vocabulary. A Level English Literature students often go on to degrees in Law or the humanities (as well as in English itself), and English Literature is recognised as a ‘facilitating’ A Level, enabling access to top universities.
