Criminology focuses on a wide range of aspects of crime and links theories with real life case studies, allowing students to consider how what we have learned from them impacts on individuals and society. Criminology will develop your knowledge and understanding of a wide range of crimes and enables students to gain an understanding of the workings of the criminal justice system. The WJEC Level 3 Applied Diploma in Criminology is a qualification with elements of Psychology, Law and Sociology that complements studies in Humanities. It offers exciting and interesting experiences that focus learning for Sixth Form students through Applied Learning, i.e. through the acquisition of knowledge and understanding in purposeful contexts linked to the criminal justice system.

The main purpose of the WJEC Level 3 Applied Diploma in Criminology is mainly to use this qualification to support access to higher education degree courses, such as: BSc Criminology, BSc (Hons) Criminology and Psychology, LLB (Hons) Law with Criminology and BA (Hons) Criminology and Sociology. Alternatively, the qualification allows students to gain the required understanding and skills to be able to consider employment within some aspects of the criminal justice system, e.g. the National Probation Service, the Courts and Tribunals Service or the National Offender Management Service; social and probation work and Sociology and Psychology.

In addition to the WJEC Level 3 Applied Diploma in Criminology, there is also the WJEC Level 3 Applied Certificate in Criminology. This is a smaller qualification with similar characteristics, including just the first two mandatory units.
