A high-quality history education helps students gain a detailed knowledge of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. Teaching encourages students to become critical of the world around them and inspires in them a curiosity to learn more about the past. Teaching equips students to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence and develop perspective and judgement. History helps students to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the relative significance of key events and the diversity of different societies. A good understanding of the past allows students to better understand the present and to put into context the key events and challenges of their time.

Year 9 Options
Choose this subject if...
You are interested in learning about the world that you live in. To understand the present, it helps to have a good knowledge of the past. We will be looking at a range of interesting topics that will give you an excellent overview of history and prepare you for future study or work. You will develop skills that enable you to question evidence, analyse different opinions and improve the way you communicate your ideas.
Future career / further education options
Many of our GCSE students have gone on to study History at A Level and have then gone on to some of the best universities in the UK. History graduates do all sorts of different jobs such as journalism, law, teaching, media and business. History GCSE will improve the way you communicate your ideas and make you more interesting which is why employers value candidates with qualifications in the subject.

Enrichment
We offer a number of trips throughout the curriculum. Students get to visit different London landmarks including Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace, Westminster Abbey and the Tower of London. Year 13 students attend a revision conference.
