On Tuesday 20 January, we were pleased to welcome Steve Eadon from Mingalaba, who delivered an engaging and thought-provoking talk to students on the importance of learning languages and the wide range of opportunities they can offer in the future. The session explored how languages can open doors to further study, travel, and careers, and aimed to inspire students to consider continuing with languages as part of their option choices.
Following the assembly, a selected group of students took part in two interactive workshops—one in French and one in Spanish—led by Mr Eadon. These bespoke sessions were designed to give students a flavour of language learning beyond the classroom, encouraging creativity, confidence, and active participation. Students were able to experience first-hand that choosing a language can be both enjoyable and intellectually stimulating.
There was a great sense of excitement and enthusiasm throughout the day, with a real buzz during both the assembly and workshops. Students and staff alike responded very positively to the event, which successfully highlighted the value of languages and their place in students’ future pathways.
