Between the 7th to 11th July, Year 12 students were given the opportunity to take part in a work experience week. It was another successful year, with over 82% of students securing in- person work experience placements. Students who were not able to find a placement, completed an in-house programme of virtual work experience, with a range of organisations. They were expected to complete employee tasks in a virtual work environment, helping them to develop their soft skills.
We were fortunate to have made connections with a number of companies, who provided our students with work experience placements. In the final week of the Summer term, Year 12s reflected on their experiences and discussed the skills and knowledge they have gained with their form tutors.
We would like to extend a formal thank you to all the organisations who have supported our students. Additionally, to our colleagues in the school, who promoted the value of work experience and contacted students on their placements. We hope that these experiences will help our Year 12s to reflect upon the skills they have acquired in their personal statements, in order to make informed decisions about their futures.
Below are some of the companies we have developed a long standing relationship with:
On 19th of June, a group of Year 12 students participated in the Transport Planning Work Experience Day, hosted at Northeastern University London. The sessions were designed for students who have an interest in Geography, Maths, Sociology and Business Studies, and were run by employees of Sueco - a multinational consulting company in the engineering sector.
The opportunity was designed to provide students with hands-on experience in the transport planning industry. After a short introduction by the company, the students were assigned a transport planning project. Each group assessed the feasibility and practicality of a specific transport system, to facilitate commutes to a shopping centre in the outskirts of a city. The groups were requested to analyse data and prepare presentations featuring the benefits and advantages of their transport model.
The teams excelled in their abilities to collaborate and produce well-structured and convincing pitches. The feedback from the industry professionals confirmed and commended the accuracy of the students' proposals. Our Year 12s were also praised for their engagement and commitment throughout the day.
The event was also an excellent opportunity for students to network and establish contacts in the engineering industry. We want to thank Sueco for supporting our young people and we hope to work with them again in the future.
