Physical Education provides the bedrock for all students' physical, mental and social wellbeing. Students will have the opportunity to explore and develop skills in a range of sporting activities. Through the various activities students will develop their communication, trust, tolerance, independence, team work and understanding of fairness and respect.

Year 9 Options

Choose this subject if...

  • you have a keen interest in sport, health and wellbeing and enjoy your PE lessons.
  • you regularly take part in physical activity both inside of school via clubs and teams, or outside of school, recreationally or competitively.
  • you want to learn about the human body and the history and sociology of sport, and events like the Olympics.
  • you wish to be the very best you can be in a variety of sports, both team and individual.
  • you aspire to a career in sport, from physiotherapy to sports development, from professional coaching to sports law.

Future career / further education options...

Sports Therapist; Physiotherapist; Fitness Manager; Sports Nutritionist; Sports Coach; PE Teacher; Sports Development Officer; Sports Scientist; Lecturer; Gym Instructor or Professional Athlete.

Further education options include a Physical Education A-Level or Sports BTEC at 6th Form level and various degrees in the field of sport at University standard.

Assessment

Students can be assessed in either GCSE Physical Education or Level 2 BTEC Sport.

Enrichment

Clubs

We offer a number of extracurricular clubs that take place before school, during lunchtime and after school. These clubs change every half-term in order for us to maximise participation. They may range from football, netball, basketball, badminton, dodgeball, tennis, table tennis, cricket, rounders, and athletics. We also offer team training for those who wish to go on to compete against other schools and take part in various competitions.

Leadership

We run many additional activities to train students up to become either qualified leaders.

Duke of Edinburgh

We offer the Bronze, Silver and Gold award to students starting in Y9 and leading through to Y12. Students take part in 4 -5 different sections including

  • Volunteering
  • Expedition 
  • Residential for Gold participants.

Trips

We offer a range of trips during the course of the year taking students to fixtures, events and to visit stadiums. Students also have the chance to be part of a football, netball or cricket tour.

We are linked with many local and national sporting organisations meaning that our students get the very best opportunities and the most diverse range of activities allowing all students to access them, some of the projects that we have previously been involved with include

All students are encouraged to develop their interests by participating in a range of extra-curricular and enrichment activities. Clubs, competitions and trips offered at KHS all provide opportunities for students to widen their experiences and develop life skills.

KHS has a wealth of opportunities for our students to get involved in sport, which range from having a focus on inclusivity, mass participation as well as the opportunity to represent the school through competitive teams in a range of sports such as Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Netball, Gymnastics, Rounders, Rugby, and Volleyball.  All of which involves taking part in fixtures and tournaments against other schools in the Brent area. 

We also enter students into Brent Athletics which is held annually at Willesden Sport Centre. In addition, we also run three successful tours for the boys' Year 9 Cricket and Football teams and the girls' Year 9 Netball team. We also run a  School Sports Day which takes place every Summer. All that the students do is celebrated by an annual Sports Awards Evening rewarding success, participation and engagement.
