Pollinator Programme

Pollinator Programme
6th Jul 2026

As part of our Pollinator Programme to increase biodiversity on the school site, two representatives from Start Easy – Sustainable Development visited the school on 6 July to deliver a full-day programme for two groups of students from Years 7 and 9. The day began with a practical pollinator planting session, during which students prepared an area of lawn near the school entrance and planted a variety of pollinator-friendly flowers to enhance biodiversity on the school site. Students then worked in one of the school's planters, where they sowed spinach seeds to promote sustainable food growing. To encourage continued learning beyond the classroom, each student received a pot containing compost and mint seeds to take home, nurture and observe as they grow. The practical activities were complemented by an interactive workshop exploring the importance of biodiversity, pollinators and food chains, helping students understand the vital role that healthy ecosystems play in supporting both wildlife and human wellbeing. The programme provided an engaging opportunity for students to develop practical gardening skills while deepening their understanding of sustainability and environmental stewardship.
