Inspiring the Next Generation of Women in the City

Inspiring the Next Generation of Women in the City
12th Feb 2026

We visited Ark Syndicate Ltd, an insurance company, where we had the opportunity to speak with employees about their roles and how they achieved their positions. We discussed the careers we aspire to and took part in some interesting quizzes. The experience encouraged me to consider a range of work experience placements, even if they do not directly link to my chosen career path.

At the central event, we listened to CEOs share their journeys and how they reached their current roles. This inspired us to stay determined and never give up. We also competed against other schools in a challenge where we had to generate the most money by choosing businesses to invest in. It was a great experience that opened many doors for me.

The #WeCanBe event, hosted by The Lord Mayor’s Appeal, was a powerful reminder that careers are not always linear and that there are many opportunities for young women in the City. The day began at Ark Syndicate Management Limited, where we spoke to a range of employees working in different areas of insurance. Hearing from individuals both with and without degrees showed that a degree is not the only measure of success, and that there are many routes into employment.

The rest of the day took place at the Guildhall, where we listened to a speech from the Lady Mayoress of London, Dame Susan Langley. She shared her career journey and offered valuable advice: always trust your instincts when making career choices.

Overall, it was an extremely informative experience that has helped to increase my confidence in pursuing future employment opportunities.
