Year 12 Geography Field Trip to Devon

Year 12 Geography Field Trip to Devon
8th Jan 2026

The Year 12 geographers have enjoyed a memorable field trip to Devon, based at the Slapton Ley Field Studies Centre. Weather conditions are always a challenge at this time of year, and this visit was no exception. On arrival, we were informed that the weekend storm was the most severe the area had experienced since the 1970s.

Despite these challenging conditions, students successfully completed fieldwork investigating rural settlements in the South Hams area and sampled local produce at a nearby farm shop. A particular highlight was an impressive 8km walk along the South West Coast Path to observe coastal landscape features. Undeterred by being soaked at times, students remained positive throughout and were rewarded with hot drinks and chips in Torcross before investigating changing beach profiles along Start Bay.

On the final day, the group will study a relic coastline below Start Point before returning to KHS. Well done to Year 12 for demonstrating outstanding resilience, teamwork and good humor in very testing conditions.
