Year 12 Politics Trip

Year 12 Politics Trip
6th Oct 2025

On the 6th of October, the year 12 politics class went on a trip to the Supreme Court in Westminster, the highest court in the land. At parliament square we saw statues of those who have helped further democracy, like Winston Churchill and Millicent Fawcett. In the supreme court, after being thoroughly searched (luckily no one set off the alarms!) we had a tour of each court room which, to most of our surprise, resembled more of a university lecture hall rather than a court hearing room! We went to courtrooms 2,1 and 3 (in that order). In courtroom 3 we listened in on an interesting case even if we didn't understand most of the language used! Then, we met one of the 12 Supreme Court Judges, Lady Vivien Rose, who, unlike most judges, attended a state school - Kingsbury High School! She went to KHS in the 1970s, attended Cambridge university and later achieved a post-graduate degree at Oxford university. After that she became a barrister and worked her way up to a Supreme Court Justice. Once we’d asked our questions, we enjoyed our lunch in St James Park in the lovely weather and returned home after a great trip.
