Overall, I think the day at 10 Downing Street was a brilliant experience, and I learned many things about war that I didn’t know before. What I found really interesting was that we got to write to living WWII veterans. The highlight for me was sitting in Churchill’s chair, as I love learning about WWII and the roles of leading powers in different countries. The tour of No.10 was fascinating, and I really enjoyed looking at and learning about the various artefacts throughout the house.

The day began at noon when we were welcomed into Downing Street and took photos outside the iconic No.10 door. We were then invited into the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Room, where we discussed the significance of VE Day and read letters from veterans. We watched a clip of Winston Churchill’s famous address to the nation on 8 May 1945, which marked the end of the war in Europe, before writing our own letters to WWII veterans.
We were then invited to take part in 10 Downing Street’s media campaign for the 80th anniversary of VE Day by reading out our letters against the backdrop of the Cabinet Room. The day concluded with a tour of the building, where we explored many historic rooms visited by global leaders and dignitaries. The media team were delighted with our contributions and gave me some very encouraging feedback, which I truly appreciated.

I really enjoyed the visit to 10 Downing Street. It was an amazing experience to walk through such a historic and iconic building, knowing that so many important decisions have been made there. I particularly liked seeing the famous front door and exploring the beautifully decorated rooms inside. It was a memorable trip that helped me appreciate Britain’s leadership and historical legacy.
