Visiting Magdalen College at the University of Oxford was an unforgettable experience that combined breathtaking scenery with eye-opening insight into one of the world’s leading academic institutions.
We attended an informative and interactive admissions talk led by an Oxford admissions tutor, who explained the application process and shared valuable tips for succeeding in the admissions exam. A key focus was on demonstrating genuine academic interest, especially through the personal statement.
This was followed by a Q&A session with current students, including Kingsbury High School alumni Vishil D (studying Physics and former Head Boy) and Saris D (studying Law), who generously shared their experiences and advice.
We also gained a deeper understanding of Oxford’s tutorial system, which involves one-to-one and small group teaching designed to encourage deep thinking and independent learning.
The day included a guided tour of the beautiful historical colleges, a walk through the Deer Park, and time to explore the city centre—allowing us to admire the well-kept greenery and the harmonious blend of historical and modern architecture.
Overall, I was struck by the university’s unique balance of tradition and innovation, and by how welcoming and supportive the academic community felt, despite its prestigious reputation. The visit not only demystified the admissions process but also gave me a strong impression of a university that values curiosity, independence, and academic excellence. It has left me even more motivated to apply in the future.
