Course Information

Students are required to pass a practical endorsement that is internally assessed against core skills in Module 1.

There are five other teaching modules:

Module 2: Foundations in Biology

Module 3: Exchange and transport

Module 4: Biodiversity evolution and disease

Module 5: Communication, homeostasis and energy

Module 6: Genetics, evolution and ecosystems

Assessment

There are 3 written papers ranging in length from 1 hr 30 mins to 2 hours 15 mins.

Students are rigorously assessed throughout the course using homework and past paper questions. Practical activity group (PAGs) contribute towards the award of practical Endorsement. Some of these take place during the Ecology field course in Year 2.

Entry Requirements

GCSE: Overall, six GCSEs at Grade 6. A minimum grade 6 in Triple Biology or grades 6 and 6 in Dual science. Students must take at least 50% of their A-level options in the sciences (Chemistry, Physics, Psychology) or Mathematics. Students also need a minimum of a grade 6 in English and Mathematics.

Other Information

Having A-level Biology is a fantastic qualification opening up fields in engineering and research to medicine and biomedical sciences, as well as teaching and finance.
